From graduations to new student orientations and finals, universities are used to adapting to change. But for CU Denver, change is not something you adapt to; it is something you embrace.
And while the world and our campus has certainly changed over the past 50 years, one thing has stayed the same: our commitment to providing high-quality education and serving our community. In 1973, a Colorado constitutional amendment established CU Denver, which had been an extension campus, as an independent institution of higher education. Half a century later, more than 110,000 alumni have benefitted from the affordable, high-quality education that CU Denver provides.
The 50th anniversary creates an opportunity to reignite old connections and create new ones. Throughout this academic year, we will celebrate this incredible milestone for our modern university with a variety of events, activities, and opportunities to remember our past, applaud our students, staff, and faculty, and look forward to the future.
We don’t want to give too many spoilers, but you can expect multimedia storytelling, new CU Denver gear, a pop-up history exhibit, time capsule, and chances to share your CU Denver memories.
Join us for our official anniversary kickoff at the 10th Annual CU Denver Block Party on August 24. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members will gather to play lawn games, sample fare from some of Denver’s best food trucks, and listen to great local bands.
That’s just the start. On October 6, the CU Denver Donor Celebration at the Denver Art Museum will honor the generous philanthropy within the Lynx community. Then, on October 13, CU Denver’s Future Fest will feature incredible talks and research presentations from the Lynx community in a festive environment, while learning more about the progress we have made in our visionary CU Denver 2030 Strategic Plan.
Please continue to check the Anniversary Story Wall for updates on more events, stories, and engagement opportunities. We look forward to celebrating this golden anniversary with you.
